Tom Cruise singed a new contract
One of Hollywood’s most lucrative stars, Tom Cruise, has reached a contract with Warner Bros Discovery, the company said on Tuesday. In 2024, they will collaborate to develop and produce theatrical pictures, both original and franchised. In each of them, Tom Cruise will play the lead role.
Tom Cruise’s deal with Warner Bros
Tom Cruise’s film collaboration is a coup for co-chairs of the Warner Bros Motion Picture Group, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, and it satisfies CEO David Zaslav’s long-standing wish to collaborate with outstanding talent both in front of and behind the camera.
“Signing a contract with Tom Cruise—possibly the biggest movie star in the world—is extremely significant,” senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian of Comscore stated.
“Talent attracts talent and every studio touts their formal arrangements with high-profile filmmakers and stars so as to signify to the world their commitment to these highly coveted creatives.”
Tom Cruise films
According to measurement company Comscore, across the course of his five-decade career, Cruise’s films have brought in more than $12 billion worldwide. His 2022 release, Top Gun: Maverick, is expected to bring in close to $1.5 billion. More modestly, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One earned $568 million at the global box office globally.
According to one source, Cruise is working on the upcoming Mission: Impossible movie for Paramount Pictures as part of a non-exclusive deal with Warner Bros.
After Hollywood writers and performers went on strike in 2023, Warner Bros. and the other major companies are trying to recover from a lengthy work slowdown.
Hollywood strike
Hollywood screenwriters and performers went on strike to demand better pay and an end to artificial intelligence (AI) in filmmaking.
Clint Eastwood, Frank Sinatra, and other celebrities will share an office on the Warner Bros. Discovery property in Burbank with Cruise, who starred in movies including Top Gun, The Last Samurai, and the Mission: Impossible series.
The two strikes caused broadcast networks to fill TV timeslots with repetitions of reality shows, stopped late-night talk shows, and halted most of the production of movies and television shows.
Cruise’s upcoming Mission Impossible movie was delayed as a result of the strikes, as production company Paramount Global also had to deal with one of the longest work stoppages in the history of the US entertainment business.
