Yamaha to Discontinue R1 series In 2025 – Due To Emission Standards: Time to say goodbye to your childhood favourite bike.

Yamaha to Discontinue R1 series In 2025: The Yamaha R1 line, poster bikes for a generation of motorcycling fans, is destined to become a historical landmark with the implementation of the EU5+ emission requirements. This is a fairly unexpected decision that will probably come as a surprise to the motorcycle community. The EU5+ emission standard deadline will not affect the availability of the Yamaha YZF-R1 or YZF-R1 M.

After the EU5+ emission standard is mandated, Team Blue will no longer produce any liter-class vehicles. Currently, motorbike menufacturers are following a common trend. One company that has done the same is Suzuki. Suzuki discontinued the GSX-R1000R at the tail end of 2022, becoming the first of the Big Four to remove a litre-class model from their lineup.

In 2024, Yamaha is going to discontinue the litre-class YZF-R1 and YZF-R1 M, following Suzuki’s example. After the EU5+ emission standard, Yamaha Motor Group has chosen to discontinue its liter-class motorbike lineup. This implies that Yamaha will not produce R1 and R1 M liter-class motorcycles in EU5+ configurations.

In order to take advantage of future prospects, the company also stated that it intended to refocus on mid-term business and product plans. The Yamaha R1 and R1 M will both remain available for purchase until 2025, when the EU5+ emission requirements will no longer apply. As surprising as this may seem, more manufacturers will probably adopt this tactic in the future.

A growing number of manufacturers are choosing higher volume automobiles over premium, low volume, and high value options. It is important to appeal to the general public because doing so would increase demand for more mid-tier products. Customers still have time to purchase one before the EU5+ emission standard takes effect in 2025.

Yamaha most likely will not stop producing the R1 and R1 M after the EU5+ emission standard is mandated. These, however, will only be used on tracks because track machines are exempt from pollution regulations. These bikes could be significantly lighter than others, and they might have free-flowing exhausts and louder music.

These may be lacking components such as turn signals, headlights, license plates, and other accessories required for motorbikes used on public roads. When Yamaha decided to abandon the R6 (4-cylinder model), they went with this track-spec approach. Due to their light wieght and agility, bikes in the sub-liter class are becoming more and more popular.

Yamaha R9

Regarding fully-faired motorcycles, the next Yamaha R9 may become the brand’s new flagship model. Long ago, Yamaha India discontinued the R1. The motorbike has a 998cc 4-cylinder engine that produced 112.4 Nm of peak torque and 194.3 bhp of peak power when paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
